City Cabinet agrees transfer of lease to Paces Campus

Sheffield City Council's Cabinet has approved the transfer of the lease of Paces Campus, the former High Green Comprehensive School, to High Green Development Trust
(HGDT).

Paces Campus is a community resource centre that brings local people
from High Green and Chapeltown together along with those with sever
disability from across the region. The activities include education,
sports and leisure, enterprise, child care and art. It is a lively and
busy centre that works to enable people to develop, make friends and
enjoy themselves.

The Campus is the base for Paces School, a Conductive Education Centre
for children with Cerebral Palsy. However we have a range of community
childcare from a nursery to out of school club. There is also a sports
hall, martial arts centre, artists studio, cafe, training and meeting
rooms. It is the base for 4 charities and 3 social enterprises.

The approval of the transfer of the lease is a real opportunity for High
Green Development Trust to enhance and develop these services for
people. It will mean that plans to rebuild the site can go ahead and we
can offer even better facilities for the community.

This asset transfer is part of a Government pilot programme which the
Development Trust Association has been supporting. It is about bringing
new life to old council or health authority buildings by transferring
them to community ownership so turning a public liability to a community
asset.

This is the High Green blog

Hi

I'm Steve Barnard, Enterprise Project Manager at High Green Development Trust. We are based at the Paces Campus at the end of Packhorse Lane, next to the Recreation Ground and Thorncliffe Woods.

I want to use this blog to tell people about what is happening at Paces and in the High Green community.

Lets start by talking about High Green. There is a page on Wikipedia which tells you all about the area http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Green. Yes, this is a where the Arctic Monkeys call home but there is so much more that is going on in the area.

I hope to use this blog to get people information about what is happening and let others share their ideas or news with local people. It is a small beginning but we would like to develop a social network for the area which would include a number blogs, web sites, networking and generally getting more people in the area up to date with what is happening around the place.

Let me know if there is anything we would like to feature on the page or make any comments about the content.

Steve
